Tips for Getting Around

• Plan in Advance 

  • International trips- at least 4 months out during prime travel dates​

  • Domestic trips - ideally 2-3 months in advance for prime travel dates

• Make sure to contact restaurants, tour operators, and accommodations before you show up! So many small businesses closed during COVID and you don't want to waste your valuable time on vacation.

​

• Set a budget and stick to it.  

  • Check out If You Have a Budget to save money while you travel! 

​

• Use TripAdvisor to narrow down the top hotels/restaurants/ and travel companies with the best reviews

 

• Email your concierge in advance to find out about local special events. Many events are ticketed and need to be purchased in advance.

• Do a bike or Segway tour on your first day of any new city. This helps you to get your bearings.

• Use your resources! Join Facebook groups like "Girls Love Travel" or the "Travel Community," which are incredible resources. You can limit your search to your specific destination and read about what other travelers experienced, or you can create a post and ask a question about your destination like "what was your favorite hotel in London?" or "what is the best neighborhood in Paris for children?" Posting for feedback on your social media could also be helpful. Lastly, the library offers endless free travel books available to patrons.
